Root canal irrigation is an important element of the root canal treatment procedure. The purpose of irrigation is to remove pulp remnants, smear layer, dentin filings and other contaminants from the root canal, which are formed during canal preparation. Irrigation promotes the creation of good conditions for the adhesion of the marginal material with which the canal will be filled.

Professor Giovanni Olivi, the originator of Apical Stopper, has been interested in laser-assisted dentistry, endodontics and the use of a microscope in dental treatment for many years. He is a scientific advisor to many industry magazines and the author of numerous publications, including: “ Laser in restorative dentistry - a practical guide, "Laser in endodontics - scientific basis and clinical applications".

The Applical Stopper is an instrument that can be used in a root canal irrigation procedure to prevent fluid from flowing beyond the apex (AE). A narrow, non-conical instrument will not close the space in the canal, allowing for effective rinsing of the smear layer, while preventing the fluid from flowing beyond the apex.
